London's 5 Year Check Up

London had his 5 year check up today. Overall he did great. I was already anticipating the visit. . . I was thinking of all the things I knew that had to be done: Urine test-it is interesting getting a 5 year old to go pee pee in a cup, finger prick-this is also interesting, I just sort of sat back and watched as the nurse explained to him that she was looking to make sure his blood wasn't green. . . this really worked, he was concerned and wanted to see! The doctor came in after all that fun and checked him over well. . . he is doing fine, the urine and blood test came back ok and he found four lolly pops in London's ears :) I think he was being generous today, as he knew what the nurse would have to do when he stepped out of the room. London had been busy doing some growing. He is not in the 5th percentile, but the 10th now. . .he's growing :) Dr. Bubba and London chatted about the most 3 important topics for a bit: Always wear a helmet when you ride your bike (or scooter for London), always buckle up and never unbuckle while moving, and never go swimming without your mom and dad. . . this one was interesting to listen to. Dr. Bubba goes "Never go swimming without your" and he wanted London to fill in the blank. London answers: "your sunscreen, your life jacket, your cell phone" (ha ha ha, that made the Dr. laugh!) Finally Dr. Bubba helped him out! So the time came, the doctor said his good-bye's
and it was time for the nurse to come in and give him his 5 year shots :( While we waited I tried to explain to him that just like the prick hurt his finger a little, these next few pricks would hurt for a minute-but not for too long. It would be over before he knew it. He seemed to understand that. When she came in it was in fact a sad event. . . but, like I had told him, the pain did not last too long and we were off. London said he wanted to go home and go to bed :( He forgot about that within minutes! He has done fine the rest of the day. I was willing to give him some medicine for the pain. . . but, he said he was fine and he has acted that way. I am glad his 5 year check up is over. . . and I know he is to :)
